Area information

For people fond of mountain biking there are several specific trails, particularly the n. 9 (the Momjan Muscat trail) that passes in front of Casa dei Farfui.

In this area there are also bicycling routes and many hiking trails through beautiful natural environments.

In the Momjan region you can find vast olive tree groves and large vineyards. Typical of this region is the Muscat of Momjan, which was a favourite wine at the court of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph.

The house is close to renowned wineries and restaurants where you can taste traditional recipes with locally produced ingredients such as white truffle and game.

Nearby you can find tennis courts, golf courses, the Baredine Cave, Istralandia Aquapark, beaches, and the spa resort Istarske Toplice. The house is 80 km from Pula airport and 35 km from Trieste, Italy.

Not far, several traditional villages can be visited, like Grisignana, known as the town of artists. During the summer, the place is metamorphosed into a lively stage, on which cultural entertainments and the sound of jazz and classical music are constantly interchanging.

The findings in the Cingarela cave have confirmed that the Momjan area was inhabited even in the prehistoric times thanks to its water springs and favourable position. In Momjan there was a prehistoric battlement and the town was probably inhabited in Roman times too (Castrum Mammilianum). The town was first mentioned in an imperial document in 1035.

In 1102 Ulrich II, count of Weimar, donated some of his lands in Istria, among which the Momjan feud, to the Patriarchate of Aquileia.

In the 13th century, the Aquileia Patriarchs gave the Momjan feud to the lords of Duino: Vossalco became the lord of Momjan and built the Momjan castle; the remains of its tower and walls are still visible today.
